Sakamoto Ryuuta is an unemployed 22-year-old who lives with his mother. In the real world, there may be nothing really special about him, but online, he's one of the world's top players of the combat game "BTOOOM"!
One day, he awakes in what appears to be a tropical island, though he has no memory of how or why he has come to be there. While wandering around, Ryuuta sees...
Btooom is a seinen/psychological manga by author Junya inoue it is a manga in a battle royale like setting. Jumping right into it i'd like to start off on the writing and the things i found displeasing
the romance was terrible and very forced the author didnt even want to bother with a setup so he just retconned the romance midway with the crappy ''O we met before and i fell in love with you for a short moment'' BS that you see a lot in nisekoi not to even go on ,the character interactions seem cold and dry and sometimes you even wonder why characters randomly get overly familiar with each other in short bursts then revert back to coldness, the setting and world building for the series is lackluster as the author didnt seem to care about doing anything original with the subplots of the series aside from the use of bombs this is your generic battle royale manga and not a very good one at that i would recommend jisatsutou or battle royale over it any day, moving on i thought the fan service could save this series at the beginning but O was i wrong all we are getting is force fed pedophilic sex scenes with under aged children involved, i hate to go on a rant but the writing of this series is just so lackluster its like the author knew there was a loophole in a scenerio but said fuck you to the readers and went on,the author performs a very grave deadly sin of world building he doesnt take time to carefully think about the of the infrastructure and design of the world(everything just happened so conveniently, the whole setup of the battle royale made no sense and the reason for these people being selected into the battle royale made no sense too) ,not explaining how events are happening(....),introducing a broken power that completely wrecks the setting its placed in.
I would like to go on about the writing cause there are many things to touch on but i'd like to finish this review/rant this year moving on to the art i get that in a sense art is subjective but i just have to call at this manga for what it is to me, the characters are drawn pretty standard compared to general manga and very subpar compared to categories in seinen manga(a bit unattractive), the backgrounds are poorly drawn with so little attention to detail in a manga such as this the background should be the most beautiful aspect of the art in my opinion moving on in terms of how the art affects the fan service i'd say the style is not to my taste and ive seen way better in other ecchi mangas.
in conclusion i didnt enjoy this manga really much but decided to try it to see what the hype was about definitely wont be rereading.
